Description

25-60 Tons Per Hour Scrap Metal Shredder for Sale – The Flagship Heavy Duty Machine for Mill-Scale Plants

The HX-DS2600 is the largest machine in the HUAXIN dual shaft line: a 25 to 60 tons per hour scrap metal shredder with a 2600 mm chamber and motor options up to 2×400 kW. It is specified for mill-scale operations — plants where the shredder feeds a furnace directly, runs three shifts, and is treated as production equipment rather than a scrap yard tool. Nothing in this line is designed to take more punishment or produce more tonnage.

Buyers at this level have usually already run a smaller scrap metal shredder and know exactly what they need. The specification conversation is short: chamber length, blade diameter range up to 800 mm, motor package, and the discharge size the contract demands. What they are really buying is the confidence that the machine holds its figure on shift fourteen of the week.

Who the HX-DS2600 Is Built For

This chamber class is specified by operations at the top of the recycling scale:

  • Steel mills and large foundries pre-shredding heavy scrap to a furnace charge specification.
  • National-scale shredding operations running three shifts on heavy mixed intake.
  • Integrated metal recycling complexes where the shredder is one stage in a full processing plant.
  • High-volume export processors producing graded fractions at premium mill specification.

Below roughly 25 tons per hour of sustained heavy output from a scrap metal shredder, this machine is oversized for the duty and the HX-DS2200 or HX-DS2000 will do the work for materially less. That is not modesty — it is the specification we would give our own plant.

Where the HX-DS2600 Sits in the Shredder Range

Eight chamber classes span 800 mm to 2600 mm and 2 to 60 tons per hour, and the HX-DS2600 is the top of the ladder. Its band overlaps the HX-DS2200 at the bottom — 20 to 50 against 25 to 60 — because output is set by material, thickness, feeding method and installed power rather than by the chamber designation. Two plants feeding different material into the same model will get different tonnage, and we quote against the material.

What the flagship adds over the class below is headroom. Blade diameter extends to 800 mm, motor options reach 2×400 kW, and the chamber holds a larger piece in the cutting zone. For a three-shift operation, headroom is what prevents the machine from becoming the plant’s ceiling — and a shredder that is the constraint on a mill’s throughput is the most expensive machine on the site.

Applications – Where the HX-DS2600 Earns Its Keep

The flagship is bought where tonnage is the business. The four settings below are where the 2600 mm chamber class is the specification we would issue.

Steel mills and large foundries

Where the shredder feeds a furnace, the discharge size is a charge specification and the tonnage is a production rate. This class produces both. The knife geometry is set against the mill’s stated size range, and the installed power is specified so that the knives never labour — because labouring knives produce fines, and fines are discounted in the charge mix.

National-scale shredding operations on three shifts

Three-shift running is where machines earn their reputation or lose it. Thermal cycles, cumulative wear and the sheer number of tonnes through the chamber separate a machine built for the duty from one that merely reaches the same peak figure on a good day. The HX-DS2600 is built for that duty: heavier shafts and bearings, automatic lubrication as standard, and a pin coupling rated for the loads involved.

Integrated recycling complexes

In a full processing plant the shredder is one stage among several, and its output sets the pace for everything downstream. Specifying the flagship means the shredder is never the constraint: conveyors, separation and the crusher or baler downstream are matched to its output rather than throttled by it.

High-volume export processing

Export contracts specify tightly and pay for consistency. Producing a narrow size distribution at 40-plus tons per hour, shift after shift, is a power and knife-geometry question. The 2×400 kW package and the 550 to 800 mm blade range exist to hold the specification rather than merely approach it.

Specifications for this scrap metal shredder are built on a material analysis. Send a representative breakdown by material, weight and thickness, and we will return the knife specification, the motor package and the output figure we expect for that analysis.

How the HX-DS2600 Works

The longest chamber in the scrap metal shredder line holds heavy pieces in the cutting zone between two counter-rotating shafts turning at 5 to 10 revolutions per minute until they are reduced, rather than rejecting them half-bitten. Torque at the knife edge is high and the action is tearing rather than impact, which is what allows the machine to take uncut heavy section and still deliver a controlled flake.

At this output the shredder is the first machine in a fixed line. Discharge falls to a conveyor and travels through the magnetic separator for ferrous recovery and the eddy current separator for non-ferrous, with a scrap metal crusher downstream where a finer size is contracted, and a scrap metal baler at the end of the line for the non-ferrous fraction. The whole arrangement is designed around the shredder’s output rather than the other way round.

Surviving the heaviest feed

Bales, castings and uncut section fed to a scrap metal shredder conceal the worst material a shredder meets. The nylon pin coupling between gearbox and drive is the designed sacrificial element — torque beyond its limit shears the pin and disengages the drive. On a machine running three shifts on heavy intake, that component is what keeps one bad piece from stopping a mill.

Choosing the Right Configuration

By material

Baled material, uncut heavy section and high-volume heavy mixed intake specify 2×400 kW with 9-tooth Hardox 500 knives — there is no smaller honest specification for that duty. Mixed heavy intake with some light material suits 2×315 kW. Where the stream is predominantly mixed light and medium scrap, 2×250 kW is sufficient and saves capital.

By thickness and form

Heavy plate and cut section run comfortably throughout the band. Bales and uncut structural members require the full chamber length and the top motor package; both should be confirmed at the enquiry stage because they set the knife, pin and bearing specification more than any other variable.

By duty cycle

This is a three-shift machine. Automatic lubrication, planetary reducers and the heavier shaft and bearing package are specified as standard for continuous operation, and we do not recommend reducing the specification to reduce the price — at this output, downtime is the most expensive line in the budget.

By available power supply

380V, 400V or 415V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, with the switchgear and starting method built to the destination market. At 2×400 kW the incoming supply, transformer capacity and starting arrangement must be confirmed before quotation, and we treat that as part of the specification.

Why Buy the HX-DS2600 from HUAXIN

Wear cost is the largest operating line, and knife supply is in-house. A machine processing 40 tons per hour consumes knives continuously, and a plant that cannot verify its blade steel or buy it at factory price is exposed. We machine our own to M6V, H13 or Hardox 500 and heat treat into the 50–62 HRC band the configuration calls for.

The frame is specified for the heaviest asymmetric load in the range. Bales and castings load the shafts unevenly and hard. The mortise-and-tenon reinforced chamber structure holds alignment under that loading, and it is the difference between a machine that holds tolerance after two years of heavy feed and one that does not.

Drive protection is standard. The nylon pin coupling is fitted to every machine in this class, rated for the loads involved. On a mill-scale plant it is the component that prevents a single bad piece from becoming an unplanned outage.

Reducers matched to three-shift duty. ZQ, ZSY and planetary gearboxes are all available; for continuous heavy running we recommend planetary reducers, and the efficiency difference is measurable on the plant’s power account.

One supplier for a whole heavy line. Conveyors, scrap metal crusher, magnetic separator, eddy current separator and scrap metal baler are engineered against this machine as one package, so the plant is commissioned as a system with agreed interfaces.

Options and Customization

  • Knife profile and tooth count — dense tooth, 7-tooth or 9-tooth — set to the plant’s material analysis
  • Blade diameter between 550 mm and 800 mm, the widest range in the line
  • Blade steel: M6V, H13 or Hardox 500
  • Heavier shaft, bearing and pin coupling specification for baled and cast material
  • Automatic lubrication of bearings and shaft seals, specified as standard at this duty
  • Loader-height hopper sized for continuous grab or conveyor charging
  • Discharge conveyor matched to the downstream line’s intake height and speed
  • Control panel, PLC interface and safety interlocks to the plant’s standard
  • Dust suppression and noise attenuation where the plant adjoins occupied premises
  • Complete line integration including crusher, magnetic and eddy current separation and baling

Footprint, Installation and Commissioning

A mill-scale installation of this scrap metal shredder needs a heavy reinforced concrete foundation sized for continuous heavy load, a power feed matched to the selected motor package including transformer capacity, and loader access to the hopper for continuous charging. Civil and electrical work is standard industrial construction; the machine requires no specialised pit, and the layout is set against the downstream conveyor run.

Foundation and assembly drawings, electrical schematics, a commissioning manual and operator training are supplied with the machine, and our engineers can attend start-up and stay for the first production shift. The spares kit quoted alongside it — knives, shear pins, seals, bearings and lubricants — is sized for the first year of heavy-duty wear, which at this output is a significant quantity and should never be left to chance.

Honest Limits: When to Buy Something Else

Two cases make this scrap metal shredder the wrong purchase.

The first is anything below 25 tons per hour of sustained heavy output. A plant at that level pays for chamber, power and maintenance it will never use; the HX-DS2200 (20–50 tons per hour) and the HX-DS2000 (15–42 tons per hour) both cover it for materially less. The second is light-only intake: sheet, profiles and thin containers are not what a 2600 mm chamber is for, and the smaller classes process them at a fraction of the running cost. For genuine mill-scale heavy duty, this is the machine — and there is nothing above it in this line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What throughput should a mill plan on?

25 to 60 tons per hour on a continuous heavy mixed feed, with the figure confirmed against your own material analysis before the order. We will provide that analysis-based number in writing; we do not expect plants at this scale to buy on a catalogue band.

Is this machine suitable for three-shift operation?

Yes — that is the duty this scrap metal shredder is built for. Automatic lubrication, planetary reducers and the heavier shaft and bearing package are specified as standard for continuous duty, and we will not recommend reducing the specification to reduce the price.

Can it process baled material?

Yes, and it is the class we specify for high-volume bale processing. Confirm bale dimensions and wire content at the enquiry stage, because both affect the knife, pin and bearing specification directly.

How does this differ from the HX-DS2200?

Chamber length of 2600 mm against 2200 mm, blade diameter up to 800 mm against 720 mm, and motor options to 2×400 kW against 2×250 kW. In practice that is headroom for three-shift mill-scale duty, where the smaller class would become the plant’s ceiling.

What motor package suits mill-scale duty?

2×400 kW with 9-tooth Hardox 500 knives for bales, uncut heavy section and high-volume heavy mixed intake. 2×315 kW covers heavy mixed intake with some lighter material; 2×250 kW is enough where the stream is predominantly light and medium.

What power supply does the plant need?

380V, 400V or 415V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz, with incoming supply, transformer capacity and starting arrangement confirmed before quotation. At 2×400 kW this is not a detail to be settled after delivery, and we treat it as part of the specification.

What separation equipment follows the shredder?

Discharge runs by conveyor to a magnetic separator, then to an eddy current separator for the non-ferrous fraction. Where the contract calls for a finer size a scrap metal crusher sits between the two, and a scrap metal baler takes the non-ferrous output at the end of the line.

Do you supply the complete mill-scale line?

Yes. Shredder, conveyors, crusher, magnetic separation, eddy current separation and baling are supplied as one engineered package and commissioned together, with our engineers available for start-up and the first production shift.
